Abstract

|
The experiment was conducted to investigate the stimulative effect of mepiquat chloride on berry set in ´Kyoho´ grape (Vitis labruscana B.).
Mepiquat chloride inhibited the shoot elongation while the difference among the treatment concentrations was negligible. Mepiquat chloride significantly stimulated the no. of berries per cluster and weight of cluster. Number of seeds per cluster was increased by mepiquat chloride treatment but no. of seeds per berry resulted in little influence. No significant difference in fruit quality and phytotoxicity was found among the tested treatments. It could be concluded that among the concentrations and application times tested, mepiquat chloride with 880 ppm at 7 to 8 leaves per shoot was the most effective in stimulating berry set in ´Kyoho´ grape.
